Terms of Service

Effective: March 2026

These terms govern your use of Opal. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms.

The service

Opal is a platform for creating interactive experiences tied to geographic locations, delivered via QR codes and URLs. You define locations and context, Opal generates a shareable experience with Google Maps 3D visualization and AI chat.

Accounts

You must create an account to use Opal. You can sign in via Google, Microsoft, or Apple, or with a username and password. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is available and recommended. If you enable MFA, keep your backup codes in a safe place — we cannot recover your account without them.

Purchases and payments

Opal offers one-off scan pack purchases — no recurring subscription is required. Payments are processed by Whop. We do not store your payment card details.

All scan pack purchases are final and non-refundable. Refund policies of the payment provider (Whop) may apply separately at their discretion.

Scan balances are associated with individual products. Pricing and available plans may change, but changes do not affect scans you have already purchased.

Your content

You own your content. All product descriptions, images, route nodes, parameters, and context you create on Opal remain your intellectual property. Opal does not claim ownership of your data. By using the service, you grant Opal a limited license solely to host, display, and deliver your content as part of the QR/URL experience. This license ends when you delete your content or close your account.

You are responsible for ensuring that your content:

  • Does not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others
  • Does not contain false or misleading claims about products
  • Complies with applicable laws and regulations, including product labeling requirements
  • Does not contain malicious content or links

We reserve the right to remove content that violates these terms or is reported as harmful or misleading.

QR codes and URLs

QR codes and URLs generated by Opal are for your use. Each code is protected by CRC integrity checks to detect tampering. Versioned schemas allow you to update product data without invalidating live codes.

You are responsible for the physical placement and distribution of your QR codes. Opal is not liable for how or where codes are displayed.

AI chat

QR experiences include an AI chat assistant that answers questions based on the product context you provide. The AI generates responses from your data — Opal does not guarantee the accuracy of AI-generated answers. You should ensure the context you provide is accurate and complete.

Chat sessions have per-session prompt limits and concurrency caps to ensure fair usage across all users.

Scan analytics

Opal provides scan analytics including geographic reach, device breakdown, and engagement metrics. Analytics are derived from anonymized scan data as described in our Privacy Policy. Analytics are provided as-is and should not be relied upon as the sole source of business decisions.

Fair use

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer the QR encoding or binary format
  • Use automated tools to generate excessive scan events
  • Abuse rate limits or attempt to circumvent security measures
  • Use the service for any illegal purpose
  • Resell or redistribute the service without authorization

We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate fair use or compromise the service for other users.

Availability and liability

Opal is provided "as is." We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We are not liable for losses arising from service interruptions, data inaccuracies, or AI-generated content.

Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid for the service in the 12 months preceding any claim.

Account termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting us. We may terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon termination, your product data and QR codes will cease to function. Scan analytics data may be retained in anonymized form.

Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan. Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or the service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Japan.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Significant changes will be communicated through the platform. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
